Setting up a Message Rule
With Outlook Express open do the following:
1) Before setting up the Mail Rule we will create a new folder to direct the spam into. Click on File > New > Folder

2) Name the new folder. For this example we called it Spam.

3) Now we are ready to create the Message Rule. Click on Tools > Rules

4) In the Mail Rules window make sure you are on the Mail (POP) tab, then click on the New button above the Mail (POP) tab.

5) In the Define Mail Rule window set up the rule as shown below. Click OK and you are finished. Keep the following options in mind:

Messages identified as spam by our mail server will have the the following prefixes added to the subject line of the message:
- (SPAM*) indicates a medium accuracy spam message
- (SPAM**) indicates a high accuracy message
Since we identify spam at two accuracy levels you have the choice of setting up message rules for each accuracy level, or a single rule that catches all.
When setting up rules or filters the following options can be considered:
- Catch All: filter for SPAM*
- Just Medium Accuracy: filter for (SPAM*)
- Just High Accuracy: filter for (SPAM**)
